For the adults, Walt Wells will give a talk entitled “The Wildland-Urban Interface and Fire Weather”, based on a new book in our collection, Fire Weather, by John Vaillant, as well as Walt’s own extensive experience as a wildland fire fighter. June 13, 7 pm.
The Adult Summer Reading Program starts on June 20. You have 2 months to read a row of books from the Reading Bingo card. When you pick up a Reading Bingo Card, you’ll get a small prize. When you bring back your Reading Bingo Card with a row completed (yes, there is a free square!!), you’ll be entered in a drawing for a gift certificate from an area business! Many thanks to Maple Soul, The Cafe, The Hardware, and Sandy’s Books and Bakery for supporting this program with their generous gifts! Drawing will happen on August 24.
There will be a series of discussion groups centering on current global issues. Led by Ann and Mike Van Dusen and Lizzie Shackelford, a variety of topics will be covered. Joshua Landis is slated to speak on July 11 at 10 am. Other topics and speakers will be announced.
Poet Peter Schneider, who resides in Rochester part-time, will read some of his poetry to us (we have his published works available for check-out) and talk about things poetical. July 16 at 5 pm.
Also in the works is a session on nature drawing, guided by artist Linda Schneider. The library will provide pencils and sketching paper as needed; we also have metal folding chairs, if you don’t want to bring your own. This will take place en pleine air, as the art folks say, outdoors to the rest of us. Date and time TBA.
