Patron Ed Robicheau recently read a little-known novel called Indian Horse, by Richard Wagamese.  He was initially interested in trying it because it takes place in an area where he has spent some time (Northern Ontario).  It’s the story of a Native American family in the 1950s-60s and the trauma they suffer at the hands of their government.

Ed says it’s a bit sad, particularly in the beginning, but it “comes around in the end”.  He was pleasantly surprised to find it a good read!

This is an historical fiction novel, published in 2012, available for check-out now!

Mary McGrath writes:

“I’ve just read Doris Kearns Goodwin’s “An Unfinished Love Store” and recommend it without reservation; a terrific read, especially for those of us who lived through the 60’s.  As all of her books are, it is written so personally and so accessibly.  She and her husband were insiders in the JFK and LBJ administrations, part of Bobby Kennedy’s presidential bid, and on hand for all the heartbreak and hope of the decade.”

Penny Parish read “The Most Fun We Ever Had”, by Claire Lombardo.  Penny says it is “the best book” she has ever read!

From Roseann Johnson:  Absolution by Alice McDermott is “the best book” her book club has read “all year”!

From Maya:  I just read How Can I Help You? by Laura Sims.  It’s a murder mystery set in a library, and involves a serial killer!

**TOTALLY NOT BASED ON ROCHESTER LIBRARY**  😀

It’s a super-fun read: a really good mystery with 2 fantastic main characters (both librarians, one with a Dark Past!).

Highly recommend!

Beth Kennet just read the newest book by J Courtney Sullivan, The Cliffs.  She really could say enough wonderful things about it!  She says that it was “very well done”.  She loved how it drew her in by” interweaving stories of people living on the same land”.  And the ending?  One word : WOW!
