Coming up!

STEAM-y Summer is ready to roll!

June is chemistry month here at the library and at Stories in the Park.  Starting June 10, stop in to learn more about chemistry, read some chemistry books (like a cookbook!  That’s chemistry!), or do some cool chemistry experiments.  It’s all about change!

June 12 will be our first Family Storytime, a family being, of course, adult(s) and kid(s) who spend time together and take care of each other and like or love each other.  We’ll read, sing, and play!  Every Thursday, all ages, 3:30.

On Thursday the 12th, the Dumbledorks will rise again!!  RPL’s fabulous Harry Potter club, for all you Hogwarts nerds out there (like me!) will meet on the 2nd and 4th Thursdays of each month, at 4:30.  We’ll spend an hour reading and doing magical things!  Then, at 5:30, I’ll screen a movie!  Movie showings are open to everyone.

Chemistry fun continues at Stories in the Park, starting up on Friday, June 13 during Rochester’s fabulous Farmers’ Market.  Why don’t we get things going with a bang (or soft fizzle) and create some explosions?!  Explosions are chemistry! TNT-free, and safe for all, but a heckuva lot of fun!  I will bring safety goggles, just in case.  Friday, 3:30-4:30, at the bandstand.

On Friday night, join Maya and the library’s telescope and binoculars for a bit of all-ages stargazing. Please DO bring your own gear and knowledge, if you have it!   This event is weather-dependent, so check the Rochester Front Porch forum for updates and location.  June 13, 9 pm.

Adult programming gets underway with a screening of The Courage to Care, a 30-minute documentary by Rochester’s own Char & Rob Gardner.  Profiling Jews interned during WW2 and those who rescued them, this film was nominated for an Academy Award and aired nationally on PBS.  Rob and Char will lead a discussion of the film and the issues it raises afterwards.  June 17, 7 pm.

Regular programming is ongoing with Purls of Wisdom and the wondrous Hilde (sounds like a punk rock band), our knitting and handcrafts group, continuing the meet each Tuesday at 1:30. Join the fabulous Amy B for our Writers’ Workshop at 1 pm on June 28.

Adult Summer Reading with Prizes starts June 24!  Details soon!

Zippety doo dah!  Fun and more fun on the way!

Don’t forget about borrowing passes to parks, historical sites, and museums!  Or cool outdoor gear from our Library of Things!

Stay tuned for more awesomeness to come–new events are still being added!
