The amazing Vermont-based Michael Caduto, award-winning environmentalist and master storyteller will be here on May 14 with his Energy Rocks! kids’ program! Using storytelling, music, nature-powered special effects AND kid-powered demos of renewable energy, Michale engages children (and adults!) in the process of transforming the forces of nature into energy for everyday use. Full of facts and humor, you and your children will learn how to reduce climate change by harnessing natural energy!

Astronomy Season is here! Join local astronomy enthusiast Sam Newmarco and his giant fancy telescope for a look at galaxies, nebulae, planets, and anything else glowing up in the sky. Use our gear or bring your own (telescopes and binoculars work). We’ll meet in the field at Liberty Hill Farm at 9 PM on Friday, May 15; email for directions. Rain date is Saturday, May 16. Any change of date due to weather will be posted on Front Porch Forum and the library’s Facebook page by 6 PM on the 15th.Many thanks to the good folks at LH Farm for allowing us the use of their field!
On May 16, the Friends of the Library 2nd Annual Spring Fling Fundraiser for RPL is happening! Vermont’s Poet Laureate, Bianca Stone, will join us for a reading from her newest collection, there will be live art with Caro Tavelli-Abar, soup inspired by Major Jackson’s new poetry, AND Jack Rowell and Sara Tucker talking about Jack’s new book of photography. WOW! That’s Saturday, May 16, from 4 – 6 PM here at the library.
May 22nd sees the start of another fabulous season for the Rochester Farmers’ Market and you know what that means–STORIES IN THE PARK! Join Maya at the bandstand for stories, art, experiments, and all kinds of shenanigans and high jinks! 3:30 – 4:30 PM, every market Friday. Parents, please note that we have been asked to make sure that the bandstand is not used for climbing; please let your kiddos know and please be on hand. Thanks for your help!
Regular programming continues with Purls of Wisdom Handcrafting on Tuesdays at 1:30. And NOW, our new evening crafting group, Knit at Knite with Knatalie! That’s on Thursday evenings at 6 PM. On Thursdays thru mid-June, join us for The Preschoolers’ Rumpus at 3. The Writers’ Workshop with Amy Braun happens on the 3rd Saturday of each month at 1 PM (but not in May).
