November at the library

There’s plenty coming up in November at Rochester Library!
On Sunday, November 9 at 2 PM, with the generous support of the Rochester Historical Society and The Pierce Hall Community Center, the library presents a free screening of Vermont filmmaker Jay Craven’s Lost Nation. Lost Nation, set during the American Revolution, intertwines the stories of Lucy Prince, Vermont resident and the US’ first known black female poet, and Ethan Allen’s struggles in the war. Film will be shown at Pierce Hall Community Center.
And don’t miss our next Upstairs Jamboree on November 12, 7 – 8:30 PM. Come for a sweet 90 minutes of The Peavine Boys and Friends. You’ll be treated to some toe-tapping harmonies and rhythms. Donations for the library gratefully accepted, but don’t let short change keep you home. Everyone welcome!
On November 15, please join us for a very special all-ages event, Drag Story Hour! Hosted by Vermont queer performing artists Emoji Nightmare and Katniss Everqueer, enjoy an hour that celebrates individuality, imagination, queer role models, and social responsibility. In this space, all are welcome, all are wonderful, and dress-up is real! Saturday, 11/15, 2 PM.
Button Up Vermont is the state’s annual campaign to help you prepare your home for winter. Speaker Brad Long from Efficiency Vermont will be on hand 6:30-7:30 to give you low- and no-cost efficiency tips as well as info on comprehensive projects designed to reduce heating bills. There will be food and drink starting at 6, swag, raffle prizes, and free childcare! Here at the library on Wednesday, November 19, 6-7:30 PM. Presented by Rochester Area Climate Initiative (RACI).
Purls of Wisdom with the marvelous Hilde, our fabulous handcrafting group, continues to meet every Tuesday at 1:30. We are currently, as a group, working on winter beanies and mittens to give away. All are welcome to participate, but by all means, feel free to bring your own projects!
Magic players continue to gather here for spell-casting and monster-slaying in games of Magic: The Gathering. We can provide you with cards and the know-how, as well as free snacks! 4-7 PM, every Tuesday.
The Writers’ Workshop will be meeting next on November
at 1 PM. Stay tuned for details on location.
We still have a few of those fabulous Friends of the Library Tshirts you’ve seen on your neighbors–but they are selling fast! Just $20 to make yourself the envy of every shirtless person you meet.
And of course, expect to find lots of great books, free snacks, and our Library of Things–so much to explore at the library.
Thank you for your support!
Tuesdays and Thursdays, 11-6, Saturdays, 9-12. rochesterpubliclibraryvt@gmail.com. Please note that the library will be closed on Thursday, November 27, so that the librarian can stay home in her turkey pants.
