Please join the library in welcoming part-time Granville resident Julie Howard Parker, for a conversation about her newly-published memoir, Journey Beyond Despair. The subtitle is “A Memoir of Love, Psychosis, and the Power of Insight”, which gives a good idea of what this fascinating book dives into. It’s Julie’s personal story, and it will grip you from start to finish! We have a copy here to borrow, and there are some copies for sale at The Bookery. Come and meet Julie and hear more about her incredible life on Thursday, August 21, at 5 pm.
The Adult Summer Reading Challenge enters its last couple of weeks! No more dawdling! Check off the items on the list when you finish them and get to the library to enter the raffle! Remember, you can enter as many times as you have checkmarks, but you can only win once. The drawing happens on August 30 at 10 am.
OK, nobody wants to hear it, but summer is drawing to a close, and you know what that means….PUZZLE SEASON! To help you celebrate to the highest degree possible, there will be a Jigsaw Puzzle Swap & Giveaway! If you’d like some new puzzles, come on down and get a couple! If you have old ones (in good shape, with all the pieces, please!!) that you have memorized, bring those (just one or 2) down and leave ‘em for someone else. You do not need to bring a puzzle to get a puzzle. Leftovers will get donated. Saturday, 8/23, 9-12.
Grandma Hobbies! Heard of ‘em? Apparently, that’s what some folks think that producing what you need for yourself comes down to–just stuff for old grandmas, stuff like knitting, canning, gardening, reading (!!), sewing…anything that keeps you out from under the thumb of Big Sock, Big Can, Big Garden, Big Library, etc. Hilde and the Purls of Wisdom are here at RPL to tell you that knitting–and anything else you do for yourself–are very much for EVERYONE! If you like to live on your own terms, come join our welcoming, supportive, and very fun group of crafters. We meet every Tuesday at 1:30 in the library’s main room. Many thanks to Natalie Dee and Drew Toothpaste for the excellent and hilarious podcast episode about this very thing.
Please note: there is no line dancing happening on August 21. Save your boogie shoes for September 4, when we’ll get down again!
As always, free snacks are available whenever the library is open: Tuesdays and Thursdays, 11-6, and Saturdays, 9-12.
Thank you so much for supporting the library–it makes all the difference!
Can’t wait to see you here!
