Dogs Love Stories returns on 12/6, in the children’s room with Joanne and Shelby! Shelby loves to hear stories read by children! Come give Shelby lots of cuddles and some good books. And starting in January, Wallace and Barbara will also be here for storytime! Wallace is a very fluffy fella who loves books and kids almost as much as Shelby; Wallace’s first storytime will be on January 17. The lovely Stella will be joining the storytime fun as well! SO MANY DOGS!
On December 12, bundle up for a bit of winter stargazing! Local astronomy enthusiast Sam Newmarco will once again guide us through the stars to see wonders of the universe! We’ll explore the Pleiades, the Andromeda galaxy, the crab nebula, the dumbbell nebula, some globular clusters, and some other galaxies as well! We’ll also be able to check out Saturn and the planet right between Saturn and Neptune. I’m sorry. I can’t think of a nonridiculous way to name it. Bring your own viewing gear, or use ours, including Sam’s superfancy scope. Bring a chair if you’d like, and a headlamp or flashlight. Location TBD. If weather does not cooperate, I’ll post another date on FPF. Everyone welcome!
On December 13 at 10 AM, join us in welcoming local author, National Geographic Explorer, co-inventor of the Cora Ball, and environmental researcher Rachael Zoe Miller, as she tells us about her new book, Decision-Making in the Age of Plastics. In this incredibly useful and engaging book, Rachael takes you through an “easy-to-use, interactive process that mixes knowledge with practical considerations” about products we often buy (take-out food or laundry detergent, for example). You’ll be able to make purchasing decisions in a way that aligns with your values and money! What’s not to love? We have a copy here at RPL for patrons to borrow. You can learn more about Rachael at http://rachaelzoemiller.com/.
On December 19, RPL will host a Wondrous Winter Welcome for families! From 5 until 7 PM, we’ll celebrate our favorite season with cookie decorating, snow-related art activities, and a candlelight spiral walk (electric candles) outside to finish the evening. If you can donate some plain cookies for us to decorate, that would be super wonderful! Hope you can join us for some wintry fun, indoors and out!
On December 23, come chill at the library with a holiday movie on our big screen. That’ll be starting at 4 PM. All ages and free snacks!
Join us any or every week for our regular programming, as we continue to knit, spellcast, and/or write our way through winter. Purls of Wisdom with The Amazing Hilde, RPL’s hugely fun handcrafting group, meets Tuesdays at 1:30. All ages, all skills, all fun! Wizards and Ogres alike are invited to join Rochester’s “largest game” of Magic: The Gathering, every Tuesday, 4 – 7 PM. We’ll provide decks and cards if you need them, expert guidance in learning to play, and free snacks! Amy Braun will work with you and other area writers to hone your authorly skills at her monthly Writers’ Workshop, meeting on the third Saturday of each month at 1 PM. Expect some scheduling changes for these events around the end of the month.
And of course, we still have great books–new ones coming in monthly!, free snacks, passes to area museums and fun spots, and our Library of Things–so much to explore at the library!
Thank you so much for your support!
