June is chemistry month here at the Rochester Library and at Stories in the Park. Stop in to learn more about chemistry, read some chemistry books , or do some cool chemistry experiments. It’s all about change! This week you’ll have the chance to try out making your own playdough!
Chemistry fun continues at Stories in the Park, meeting Fridays during Rochester’s fabulous Farmers’ Market. There will be more mixing, some rainbows, and fluffy slime! Right around 4 pm, we’ll make cookies (that’s my favorite chemistry!), so don’t be late!! Also a small craft to celebrate the first day of summer and BUBBLES. Fridays, 3:30-4:30, at the bandstand.
On Thursday the 19th, put on your dancing hat (or shoes, whatever!) and come to the library for some line dancing! I’ll put some videos on the big screen, and you can dance until you plop. There are plenty of instructional levels, so no need to have any experience to come play! All ages, all skill levels. 5 pm, upstairs. No dirty shoes, please!
On June 24, please join US Forest Rangers Katie and Phil, who will talk to you about Getting to Know Your National Forest! You will learn about recreation and volunteer opportunities in the Rochester area of the Green Mountain National Forest: trail use, hiking, camping, and fishing.Katie is a Recreation Management Specialist on the Green Mtn Forest (ie, this woman knows how to have fun in the woods!). She helps to manage the opportunities for enjoying our gorgeous forest.Phil is a Recreation Manager for the Forest Service here in Rochester (also someone who can have a great time outside!). He has also worked in wildlife conservation and special uses management.Tuesday, June 24, 4 pm.
Starting June 24, you can stop in at RPL to learn more about our Adult Summer Reading Program with Prizes! Each time you check off a library challenge from the list, you get to enter the raffle! There are 3 prizes that will be given out at the end of August. Reading is awesome! Prizes are awesome! You can’t lose!
And here’s some smashing news: starting in July, the Rochester Library will host monthly live music with The Peavine Boys! Happening on the 2nd Wednesday of each month, and featuring other area musicians, you can come and do some of that line dancing we’ll be practicing here, or sit comfortably in our lovely space and enjoy the sweet sounds of The Boys. In July, they will be joined by The Three Sues, renowned everywhere for their spine-tingling harmonies! Show will run from 7 until 8:30; entry is by donation for the musicians and the library. Please, no beverages (water is fine) or food.
Regular programming is ongoing with Purls of Wisdom and the wondrous Hilde (sounds like a punk rock band!), our knitting and handcrafts group, continuing the meet each Tuesday at 1:30. Join the fabulous Amy B for our Writers’ Workshop at 1 pm on June 28. And on Thursdays, come enjoy Family Storytime at 3:30 in the kids’ room.
