Mark your calendars now: The Summer Series on International Affairs, expertly managed by Ann and Mike Van Dusen and Lizzie Shackelford, will kick off on June 27 at 10 am with a talk by Dr Ellen Frost entitled “Is China Winning Hearts and Minds in Asia?”
Dr. Ellen L. Frost lives in Washington DC. She and her husband, Bill Pederen, are long-time summer residents of Royalton, Vermont. She is an Adjunct Senior Fellow at the East-West Center’s Washington office. She writes and lectures on Asian political-economic issues and their strategic and security implications.
Dr. Frost’s prior government jobs include Counselor to the U.S. Trade Representative (1993-95), Deputy Assistant of Defense for International Technology and Economic Affairs (1977-81), Legislative Assistant in the U.S. Senate (1972-74), and various positions in the U.S. Treasury Department (1974-77). In the 1980s she worked in the private sector and subsequently joined the Peterson Institute for International Economics. She has written three books: Asia’s New Regionalism; For Richer, For Poorer: The New U.S.-Japan Relationship; and Transatlantic Trade: A Strategic Agenda.
She received her Ph.D. from the Department of Government at Harvard University, where she specialized in modern Chinese history, politics, and foreign policy. She also holds an M.A. from the Fletcher School of Law and Diplomacy and a B.A. magna cum laude from Radcliffe College.
